The Persimmon Collective Fund helps resource and support beginning and existing farmers and land stewards of color through funding and technical assistance, and by nurturing an ecosystem that uplifts and values an in-depth cultural lens to build relationships with individuals and collectives of farmers in NC, SC, GA and VA.
The PCF's values focus on land and food justice, the importance of deep relationships in agrarian work, collective work and collective harvest integrated into community care, and sees farm and land based operations as part of a broader food systems strategy.
We support beginning and landless farmers in land acquisition and legacy farmers in land security and retention resources. We will facilitate this by helping to move significant capital for down payments, working with other funds, donors, and lenders, and resourcing legal services to devise land acquisition/retention and financial strategies. We will be working with farmers and farm collectives to implement right-sized structures to best support their land-based businesses and communities.
The Persimmon Collective Fund offers technical assistance based on the needs of the communities in which we work. Currently, we are working with professionals to provide support the following service areas:
Legal
Tax and Accounting
Real estate consulting
Business Planning
We offer this technical assistance by first prioritizing our PCF Farmer Organizers and BIPOC Farmer grantee community, and will consider supporting farmers beyond these groups on a case by case basis.
If you have a technical assistance need, please fill out the form below.
Relationships are the foundations of our work. We continue to nurture relationships fostered before the formation of PCF and eagerly pursue new partnerships with organizations, collectives and individuals with whom we share similar values and grounding.
We are also investing in relationships in our local ecosystem. Our work as included:
• Drumming Workshops: We have offered BIPOC farmers in the NC piedmont an opportunity to learn West African drumming rhythms that are directly related to agriculture.
• BIPOC Seed Gathering: We hosted a gathering of seedkeepers from the across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic that took place in Durham, NC. This event was a beautiful convening of farmers and land stewards to share the culture, stories and practice around seed keeping.
